Gourmet Treats for my budgies

I try and make the fiends evening meal as interesting looking as possible.

Of course they like to trample through it rather than discuss it's merits but that works for me :)

Abbie eats with the Big Boys

She's settling in so well, I am so happy with her progress. Not only has she got both Jerry and Hector running after her giving her food but she now comes and has a nibble at the vegetables I put out for them.

Good girl Abbie :)

She makes such cute and funny little noises too, really different from the boys, a bit like Gizmo!

Getting the fiends to eat their vitamins

I just gave the budgies a big plate of vegetables and egg and they are currently tucking in and flinging it everywhere with glee.

The vegetable mess contains the following:

The Bird Pellets and Pine Nuts are sprinkled into the mix just to make sure that any fussy birdies still get their vits!)

Sweetcorn niblets (rich in vitamin B)
Broccoli grated (rich in vitamins B, C and K)
Carrot grated (A, K)
Egg chopped (A,D,E,K)
Chopped Pine Nuts (B,E,K)
Crushed Harrisons Superfine Bird pellets (All manner of healthy things)

I'm just a girl

What a lovely sunny bright day it is today, and HOT (22 degrees Celcius ... in April!) I am so glad (and I am sure that the birds are too) that we made the Window Screen last summer so that we can fully open a window and let the breeze and and allow some air to circulate. We need to make one for the other front room window so that we can have the full experience!

I am sprouting some seeds for the budgies - Alfalfa Sprouts, so that they can have something tasty and nutritious to eat. It'll take a couple of days but it's worth it and costs next to nothing!

The husband kindly put the budgie play-ground structure back together for me (well for the budgies really) today so I took advantage of this by pegging Basil to it for them and they enjoyed this a lot. Especially Snowy as he did what he always does, climbs up, nibbles on the stalks and throws the leaves to the floor!

Had to put a huge pink water bottle in Budgingham Palace as the little blue one kept leaking and soaking the newspaper, I am sure that this had absolutely nothing to do with the budgies penchant for climbing all over it and biting it. So far the pink monstrosity hasn't leaked so fingers and wings crossed that it stays that way.

The birds had a very sleepy afternoon after their Basil Munch but they are now in full evening song - today's song of choice on Kerrang is "I'm just a girl" by No Doubt!

Monty seems to particularly like the lyric "Oh I've had it up to here" :)

Seven birds eating breakfast

It's not easy to get breakfast organised when you have seven hungry beaks to feed. Especially when they don't all stay in the same place at the same time, sometimes it's possible to get a good photo though.

Yum yum say the birds.

Give us stuff.. or else

Or else what you may ask - well I didn't want to find out so I gave 'em stuff.

Monty wouldn't let me near his food in case I stole some, he said I eat more than the budgies and it wouldn't be fair on them if I shared. He has a point.

Sky did his Taxi Driver impression, it was very good.

The rest just scoffed food and sang all day long - it's what they do best.

Another thing they do very well is bite stuff - Snowy bites the sandpaper I put in their play-station, he has made it his goal to tear off as many small pieces daily that he can - I am worried what he is doing with them, perhaps building a raft or making a loofah so Monty can scratch him in the bath.

Blue-Boy also loves biting stuff, I keep having to shoo him away from the budgie screen as he's chipping away at the wood - maybe he's whittling it to make it pole-like, we'll have to see.

Gourmet breakfast, Lord of the rings..

I hung up a new toy yesterday - it's Lileks and I had it in his cage but he was ignoring it so to entice him to play I hung it from the rack on the wall.

Monty and Roswell have both balanced in a ring so far. I am hoping that Lilek takes an interest in it at some point.

Look at their lovely breakfast - these birds eat better than I do! :)

Happy Days with the seven Amigos

It's been a dull and dark day but the budgies have enjoyed lots of vegetables, flown around and sang a lot.

Sky has even had some "happy time" with his mirror, bit shocking for us but I guess it's perfectly natural for a budgie!

At the moment the radio is on and they're all tweeting along to "Instant Karma" by John Lennon, the budgies are singing for peace it seems, none present though :D

It's all go for the budgies

The sun is out and the budgies are very lively, it's a good job because they have so much to do today.

I hope that they can make time for their rigorous schedule of preening, playing, singing, squawking, flying and of course eating!

Their day started some time ago when they were uncovered and presented with their usual treats of Dill, Carrot, Babycorn and Cress. Of course they have their Trill budgie seed and a smattering of Harrisons superfine bird pellets thrown in.

They have since tucked in, made a mess and left me little presents everywhere, it's very kind of them and I look forward to many more throughout the day.

Budgie Forest

Today the budgies decided to enter in to the wilderness known as the budgie forest which I created for them on top of the summer palace.

Immediately Jerry jumped on to the top of the pot of chives and claimed himself to be a budgie prince.

Snowy was far too busy stuffing his beak with Dill to even notice.

Meanwhile Roswell tried to hide behind the Dill and Monty struggled to reach it, until he realised he could climb.

All budgies thoroughly enjoyed and continue to enjoy biting on the little wooden branch climbing frame while munching on some green stuff.

Basil makes my birds nuts

I am sure that basil is like some sort of wonderdrug that makes budgies go crazy-insane. Monty is currently singing to his food (the aforementioned basil) dancing around like a loon, not sure what song he's singing but maybe it goes something like this:

"basil basil, you are so green and tasty and leafy and I want to bite bite bite you"

I am beginning to understand the inner workings of a budgies mind.

Will someone please tell Roswell that there are lots of interesting things to bite here such as cuttlefish, iodine blocks, branches etc and that he does not need to bite the budgie playground every few minutes - it's really noisy because the wood is quite hard and we're frightened it will hurt his poor beak.

Now all four budgies are making a swiss cheese style pattern in the remaining basil leaves and totally ignoring the fig that I had cunningly placed beside it in yet another failed attempt to get them to eat fruit..

Sunny Singing, bathing and flying!

The birds are singing along to Portishead's "Sour Times" on Kerrang in the sunshine, very lively and happy today it would seem.

Took a few photos of the feathered fiends frolicking about (try saying that three times fast)

Today I will be washing "Budgingham Palace" and quite a few of their toys, I expect much squawking as they're evicted from their home for a few hours and have to spend some time in the "Summer Palace". I'll probably peg some spinach up for them to nibble at, that'll keep them distracted for...oh...five minutes at least!

Now to think of a new way to arrange the cage so that they don't get bored - I honestly don't know who is keeping who entertained here :)

Enjoy your day!

Afternoon climb and bite session

The birds really enjoyed their vegetables and biting the wooden climbing frame that I had pegged the dill to.

I think I confused them by segregating the carrot pieces that I had grated and chopped up - with some pegged together Spinach. They looked quite concerned as it it was totally wrong and they couldn't at all see what I was trying to do. Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen I aint, apparently.

It's a good job I don't professionally design abodes for budgies cos they'd break down in tears and refuse to pay me.

Enjoy the pics, honk if you like 'em :)

Wall of Dill-iciousness

We're a bit worried that this might make Monty have 'Nam flashbacks and bring on his PTSD but we decided it was worth the risk.

Today Dill has been pegged to the new "adventure wall" to see what the budgies make of it. So far it's been flown over by four very nervous budgies, then picked at and stood on to show it who is boss.

I even got a photo of Monty and Jerry standing together, being "almost" friendly..

Enjoy!
