Pouting, Preening and messing about

Lots of photos as I managed to find some old batteries in the "spares" pot that actually powered my intensive juice-sucking camera for long enough to take a few shots and upload to my PC.

1/ Oooh Roswell aren't you big and strong

Custard admires the big Grey fella.

2/ What is this stuff?

Jerry dives in and makes faces at the treats laid on for the fiends.

3/ Monty knew it was time to give up smoking when the munchies had almost run out

I want the worlds biggest bag of crisps man!

4/ Sky is just hanging around

Being nosey!

5/ I am waiting for you

Lilek waits with intent on my husbands chair - hoping for some toast crumbs.

6/ A Moulty Custard

Custard looks a little ragged but still very pretty and fluorescent.

7/ Custard singing

If I sing a song then Roswell might come and pay attention to me.

8/ Preen me Blue-boy

Hector makes his demands clear.

Classic FM for the budgies

There is still Snowy chasing going on today so we have deployed some Classical music to calm the birds down, they're all in their separate pairs tweeting away and preening to the soothing sounds of Classic FM.

Drives me bonkers when they start chasing each other around and wing flapping at their fellow birdies - it seems to happen at least once a month for up to a week.

Still they're calm....for now!

My guys aren't spoilt...or weird.... are they?

Monty keeps jumping into the grit pot - he's the only one of the birds that fits all the way in to the tiny ceramic ramekin that the grit is put into and he's been making the most of that lately by sitting in it. Perhaps it's comfortable or more likely he is crazy! :)

Does anyone else spend ages chopping their birds vegetables into tiny little pieces (just the right size)so that they can pick them up with their beaks and throw them all over the place creating a lot of mess, or as the budgies would lead you to believe - "art".

Jerry is definitely a modern day Picasso, there is no vegetables no matter what size immune to being picked up and lobbed as far as he can whilst running to the top corner of the cage and peering over the edge to see where it has landed.

The sun has just come out, it's been raining felines and canines all day!

The day is looking up - what next? - watch this space ;)

balls!

Balls, the budgies just love 'em.

Snowy sings to his, Monty stands on them to make himself feel higher and safer and today Jerry and Roswell have been throwing them around.

We have some lattice bell balls in the soap dish that is stuck to the window (with suction, not glue) and Roswell and Jerry have been standing up there today chucking them onto the floor. I tried to get a photo of Jerry actually throwing a ball with his beak but my shutter-speed isn't all that fast so I just got one of him with the ball in his beak.

:)

It's all go for the budgies

The sun is out and the budgies are very lively, it's a good job because they have so much to do today.

I hope that they can make time for their rigorous schedule of preening, playing, singing, squawking, flying and of course eating!

Their day started some time ago when they were uncovered and presented with their usual treats of Dill, Carrot, Babycorn and Cress. Of course they have their Trill budgie seed and a smattering of Harrisons superfine bird pellets thrown in.

They have since tucked in, made a mess and left me little presents everywhere, it's very kind of them and I look forward to many more throughout the day.

Piccys from this morning..

Budgie Forest

Today the budgies decided to enter in to the wilderness known as the budgie forest which I created for them on top of the summer palace.

Immediately Jerry jumped on to the top of the pot of chives and claimed himself to be a budgie prince.

Snowy was far too busy stuffing his beak with Dill to even notice.

Meanwhile Roswell tried to hide behind the Dill and Monty struggled to reach it, until he realised he could climb.

All budgies thoroughly enjoyed and continue to enjoy biting on the little wooden branch climbing frame while munching on some green stuff.

Sunny Singing, bathing and flying!

The birds are singing along to Portishead's "Sour Times" on Kerrang in the sunshine, very lively and happy today it would seem.

Took a few photos of the feathered fiends frolicking about (try saying that three times fast)

Today I will be washing "Budgingham Palace" and quite a few of their toys, I expect much squawking as they're evicted from their home for a few hours and have to spend some time in the "Summer Palace". I'll probably peg some spinach up for them to nibble at, that'll keep them distracted for...oh...five minutes at least!

Now to think of a new way to arrange the cage so that they don't get bored - I honestly don't know who is keeping who entertained here :)

Enjoy your day!

Look what awaited me when I got back from my shower this morning!

The cheeky little so and so's running riot, they ran along the floor and the sofa, onto my laptop, I think Jerry was trying to tap out a message on the budgie forum I frequent "help us, we need more millet"

My husband managed to capture some photos on his mobile phone, including the one below, you can see Roswell on the floor calling up to Jerry to fly down. Roswell tried to land on the sofa but failed "pull out, abort abort!"

Giving the birds a break from the Evil yellow stuff

I think I'll give the birds some dill today, maybe it'll help calm them down, ha!

Either way it'll make the room smell nice and fresh and more importantly give the birds something new to do :)

CORN! - ATTACK!!

Saturday, 4 September 2010

Didn't I tell you Snowy was addicted to corn?

He stood on it while the others pecked at the edges to get to the last of the tasty niblets. He was like a budgie on a podium, I half expected him to do a little dance.

Lately he has taken to spinning the plastic budgie (attached to the play centre) round and round.

He also feels the need to detach the bell ball from the end of the hook and fling it as far as he can - like a discus.

Here they are - my favourite trouble makers..

Roswell "Ah, a photo opportunity!"

Lovely bright and sunny day for the cheeky chaps

It's a lovely day today, sun is shining and the birds are tweeting - in their loud boisterous way!

Monty has already ventured into the kitchen several times to sing to the dishes and run about on the draining board. We think he likes the acoustics out there!

We also think he likes the attention he gets from us getting up and chasing him out again. The kitchen door is always closed if there is any cooking going on so he's not in any danger, sooooo cheeky though! :)

It's really cute to see him tweeting, head bobbing and bashing away at a cup or plate that's two or three times his size.

Here are some pics from this morning..

..I used a distraction technique to stop them playing up - it's called giving the little kiddies whatever they want as long as they're semi-quiet for 5 minutes!!

Jerry the explorer

The birds have been very noisy today, they have had to be separated once because they became too boisterous.

Lots and lots of preening today so they're obviously making themselves beautiful for something, maybe there is a budgie event I don't know about.

Monty and Roswell have been showing off a lot, doing somersaults in the air close to me to get me to pay attention to them.

They have also thrown around a lot of mange tout, I chopped it up for them as I like to give them variety (they also had carrot, basil and broccoli today) and found it tossed around with their tiny beak marks in it.

Jerry and Roswell have been landing on the floor - this is always instigated by Jerry as he's a bit of an explorer.
