Din Dins for the Fiends

The fiends are currently dining on a lovely nutritious meal of Sweetcorn niblets, Broccoli and Carrot enriched with sprinklings of Harrison's bird pellets, Avian seaweed and a tiny sprinkle of Guardian Angel.

I expect to find tiny sweetcorn husks all over the lino in about oooh five minutes!

Gotta love 'em, but they certainly do keep me busy.

Monty shows us his best side on Camomile bath day

The budgies decided that they would love a bath today and requested that it be a Camomile one. So I boiled them some water and put a teabag in. Then it was diluted with cold water so that it was luke-warm.

They all dived right in. Roswell and Jerry especially enjoyed themselves and got very soggy indeed!

The fiends are moulting

The budgies are really spiky at the moment. Their poor little heads must be really itchy.

Dumpling keeps trying to get me to preen him every time I go over to see him.

I made them some egg food:

Here is how I put it together:

Hard boil an egg for 25 minutes then cool it, cut it in half and peel off the shell. It has to be properly hard boiled otherwise your birds can get ill.

Carrot, Broccoli and hard boiled egg

Grate about 2 inches worth of peeled carrot, and a washed floret of broccoli along with the egg into a bowl.

Grated ingredients

OPTIONAL: I added a pinch of "Guardian Angel" as I had some handy but you don't have to do this.

Mix it all together and serve.

Monty happily chomping away at his meal

Simple to make and very nutritious for your birds, moulting means that they need extra protein in order to produce new feathers.

IMPORTANT: Don't leave this out for more than a couple of hours and make sure you remove any traces of vegetable and egg that have been thrown around by the birds.

Treats and sunshine

It's a lovely sunny day and I thought I would treat the fiends with a big plate of their favourite food - sweetcorn!

I hacked the nibblets off the cob and washed them. Then I smashed up some pine nuts and harrisons bird pellets. Sprinkled this mixture on the corn with some avian seaweed. I can get the fiends to eat nutritious stuff this way that they would ordinarily ignore - sneaky huh!

They love it and have no idea how good for them it is. Poor little fiends :)

I gave them some basil too so don't feel too sorry for them. These birds are treated very well indeed, they eat like kings. Of course Monty is the only true king!

A Birthday Dumpling

It's Dumpling's (Lilek's) birthday today! - he's around 5.

A whole year since he came to us.

He's a totally different bird these days. When he arrived he was quite the anti-social little budgie. Chittering at other budgies that came near. He also regurgitated constantly on his foot, self comforting or obsession perhaps.

Now he plays with his best bud Sky quite a bit and even Roswell and Monty sometimes. We are very happy with the changes in him and he'a a happy little chappy these days too!

Happy Birthday little Dumpling!!

Happy Birthday Blueboy and Sky!

On 5th October as well as being my 9 year wedding anniversary it was Sky and Blueboys too!

A whole year with us, which makes Sky 5 and Blueboy 3 years old.

They came to us together In October 2010 and have joined a happy flock.

Sky is great friends with Lilek, they whizz about the front room together causing mayhem and mischief. Blueboy is inseparable from Hector. Blueboy can be a nervous little budgie and Hector protects him, makes him feel safe.

Here are the birthday boys.

New Budgerigars Forum

A couple of days ago I tried to log into my favourite Budgerigars Forum only to find that it had been closed. I had made quite a few friends and looked forward to logging on several times a day to hear the latest news.

After a whole day with no budgie fix, I decided to set up a new forum and start the process of bringing the members back together.  I hope that we can grow and share ideas.

Maybe even bring in a few new people to share our enthusiasm of Budgies!

Join us at the new forum: http://budgerigarsforum.proboards.com/index.cgi

Monty and the gang will be waiting..
