balls!

Balls, the budgies just love 'em.

Snowy sings to his, Monty stands on them to make himself feel higher and safer and today Jerry and Roswell have been throwing them around.

We have some lattice bell balls in the soap dish that is stuck to the window (with suction, not glue) and Roswell and Jerry have been standing up there today chucking them onto the floor. I tried to get a photo of Jerry actually throwing a ball with his beak but my shutter-speed isn't all that fast so I just got one of him with the ball in his beak.

Monty has a boogie

I caught Monty shaking his little booty earlier today, having a secret boogie behind the Tower of Terror.

I don't think he thought anyone was watching.

Monty shakes his wild thang

Come and join the pool party

The boys have enjoyed a bit of a pool party this morning, with a Dill Cocktail each they made their way to the top of the Summer palace (seems ironic calling it that considering the weather at the moment - 16 degrees and cloudy according to my PC)

As you can see they had a lot of fun splashing about - especially Snowy, who did his little duck impression and waddled in and out of the water several times.

Sunday 26 September 2010

The birds are all singing away to some Rock music as usual, wonder if they will be lucky and their favourites will come on, these include "Don't stop me now" by Queen anything by Mika and anything that is really jumpy and lively!

Monty does prefer his Aerosmith, Guns N Roses and Nirvana though, but if any silly music plays either on TV or radio he'll start hopping about like a deranged Sparrow.

Breakfast brought the birds some pegged up Dill and Spinach, baby corn, Mange Tout and grated carrot - these birds have refined tastes.

Still Monty sat on my hand and had some millet - you wouldn't think he'd have room after that small feast but he managed it.  Offered some to Roswell and he flew at me twice in an attempt to land on my hand but chickened out and I weakened (surprise surprise) and fed him some anyway - I am a bit of a softie!

It's all go for the budgies

The sun is out and the budgies are very lively, it's a good job because they have so much to do today.

I hope that they can make time for their rigorous schedule of preening, playing, singing, squawking, flying and of course eating!

Their day started some time ago when they were uncovered and presented with their usual treats of Dill, Carrot, Babycorn and Cress. Of course they have their Trill budgie seed and a smattering of Harrisons superfine bird pellets thrown in.

They have since tucked in, made a mess and left me little presents everywhere, it's very kind of them and I look forward to many more throughout the day.

Piccys from this morning..

Budgie Forest

Today the budgies decided to enter in to the wilderness known as the budgie forest which I created for them on top of the summer palace.

Immediately Jerry jumped on to the top of the pot of chives and claimed himself to be a budgie prince.

Snowy was far too busy stuffing his beak with Dill to even notice.

Meanwhile Roswell tried to hide behind the Dill and Monty struggled to reach it, until he realised he could climb.

All budgies thoroughly enjoyed and continue to enjoy biting on the little wooden branch climbing frame while munching on some green stuff.

A morning feast for a lucky budgie

Monty was the only one brave enough to sit on my hand and eat a sprig of millet this morning, he's been singing about it ever since. He has puffed himself up and is telling the other three that this is why he's the boss of the house, because he's brave and worthy of human attention. Probably telling them that he has the small human with the glasses thoroughly trained and that she will hold out her arm with millet whenever he feels like some.

Not sure what his signal to me is - it's probably subliminal, Monty would definitely use the power of the budgie mind to out-wit me :)

They have their egg and grated broccoli mix this morning, later on I'll replace it with babycorn, carrot, basil and perhaps some more broccoli.

Me, trained - NEVER! :D

Here are some pics of Monty enjoying his tucker.

Basil makes my birds nuts

I am sure that basil is like some sort of wonderdrug that makes budgies go crazy-insane. Monty is currently singing to his food (the aforementioned basil) dancing around like a loon, not sure what song he's singing but maybe it goes something like this:

"basil basil, you are so green and tasty and leafy and I want to bite bite bite you"

I am beginning to understand the inner workings of a budgies mind.

Will someone please tell Roswell that there are lots of interesting things to bite here such as cuttlefish, iodine blocks, branches etc and that he does not need to bite the budgie playground every few minutes - it's really noisy because the wood is quite hard and we're frightened it will hurt his poor beak.

Now all four budgies are making a swiss cheese style pattern in the remaining basil leaves and totally ignoring the fig that I had cunningly placed beside it in yet another failed attempt to get them to eat fruit..

Sunny Singing, bathing and flying!

The birds are singing along to Portishead's "Sour Times" on Kerrang in the sunshine, very lively and happy today it would seem.

Took a few photos of the feathered fiends frolicking about (try saying that three times fast)

Today I will be washing "Budgingham Palace" and quite a few of their toys, I expect much squawking as they're evicted from their home for a few hours and have to spend some time in the "Summer Palace". I'll probably peg some spinach up for them to nibble at, that'll keep them distracted for...oh...five minutes at least!

Now to think of a new way to arrange the cage so that they don't get bored - I honestly don't know who is keeping who entertained here :)

Enjoy your day!

Roswell the Spy .. a license to preen and look pretty..

I was just sitting and typing away happily on my computer, configuring thunderbird to work with Yahoo mail, downloading 3,000 (yes 3,000 - time to do some housekeeping methinks..aherm...cough) headers from my inbox.

I heard a lot of whistling and screeching behind me, so I look behind me and what do I find? - Roswell sitting staring at my computer screen tweeting away, not sure what it looks like to a budgie but he obviously finds it very interesting.

I just showed him the below picture of himself and he turned his head to the side to admire himself and then started preening :)
