Fly my pretty!

Got a great photo of little Lilek flying towards me yesterday.

It makes him look a little more chunky than he is cos his wings are behind him and it makes them look short.

Look at the eager expression on his little chops :)

Monty Likes to throw balls

Monty has been enjoying throwing a purple bell-ball off of the top of the cage onto the floor.  He will then look over the edge to see where it landed :)

Do your budgies throw things?

NO Don't go out again!

I have been out three times already today - once to the Post Office, then to Mudchute Train Station and then to see the Doctor, each time I got squawked at by Dumpling for leaving. He even tries to climb into my shoe as I am putting it on and flaps his wings at the Velcro as I pull it together.

When I got back from the third trip he had decided that I wasn't allowed to go out again and attached himself firmly to my foot, determined not to let me move!

He is one determined little blighter isn't he!

Blue-boy and Hector get comfy new perches

A very kind person on the budgerigars.co.uk forum made me some new perches for Blueboy and Hectors cage as they had those horrible plastic ridges ones and none of the other long wooden natural perches that I have fit in their cage - I have two Hagen Visions and one Ferplast-a-like cage and they are a totally different length, width and everything, and some of the bars are veritcal.

I gave the wrong measurements for the perches and so they were too long (oops) so my husband kindly shortened them for me yesterday and we put them in the Blue budgies cage. Blueboy was first to try the perches out and they got his enthusiastic nod of approval.

The great thing about them compared to the rope perch I had temporarily put in as their bedtime roosting place is that they are long enough for Blueboy to run up and down pinging the bars at night-time as he does -
ordering me to cover him and Hector so that they can go to sleep (or whatever little budgies do when they are covered at night, who really knows?)

Here are some photos of Blueboy exploring the cage and also a video of Blueboy and Hector saying good morning to eachother and then flying off!

and a Monty shall sit down with a Dumpling

The budgies were very quiet this morning, usually Sky will wake me at 7.15am on the dot singing and squawking to himself very loudly until I get up and uncover them all.

No noise at all this morning, I was wondering if the budgies had packed their nap sacks (millet and a piece of carrot each) and left to seek their fortunes.

I walked into the front room to find my husband taking a photo of something in Monty, Snowy, Sky and Dumplings cage, all worried I asked him what he was doing.

Nothing sinister had happened to the budgies thankfully, he had uncovered them to find that Monty was sitting on the shelf where Dumpling roosts next to his keys, quite happily side by side. Usually Dumpling would chase off any other bird that got near his keys as he's very possessive of them and of his shelf!

Here is the photo he took, and one I zoomed in on so that you can see Monty and Dumpling clearer :)

Rock on Monty

We just searched for a Rock station so we could play Monty the music he's accustomed too - now that's dedication. I do hope he gets his wish and some Nirvana or Guns N Roses is played, I am sure that would make his day :)

He just loves that loud music, he head bobs, biffs things with his beak and gets out all of his general birdy frustration - a Monty has a lot to be annoyed about at all times.

Listen here "Toy" or whatever you are called - I am going to beak you till I can beak no more

Four Sticky Yellow-faced Budgies

We thought we were going to have to lock the fiends in for the day as we had workmen arriving, so we gave them some corn which I ingeniously managed to wedge onto lolly-sticks and the husband hung up in the cage on a wooden clothes peg.

I also draped Basil all over the cage too to try and keep them amused.

Snowy took great pleasure in chewing the stalks so that all the leaves fell to the floor of the cage and all of the budgies now have sticky yellow faces and beaks.

Might have to give them a rest from corn tomorrow and wash their little faces with a flannel, mummy style :)

and then it rained!

Wow, the sky just got dark and it’s suddenly started raining really hard, I heard someone scream outside and someone shouted “I’m getting really soaked”, always funny when it's happening to someone else :D

The budgies do not like the dark sky, Roswell and Jerry are perched on the soap dish on the window staring out at it wondering if it means the worlds millet supply is no more (It’s as deep as they can get to “it’s the end of the world”)

Snowy and Monty are playing about inside Budgingham palace pretending all is as normal but secretly wondering why the room and sky have got dark and who stole the shiny bright thing that shines on them and makes then happy.

They haven’t been subjected to thunder and lightning yet, wonder what they’ll make of that?

I have to keep changing things around to keep the fiends happy

New member of the flock!

It’s a clay budgie that my mum brought me back from Eastbourne, it’s a third of the size of a real budgie and it’s a female, but my four feisty boys are petrified of it :)

With the absence of my camera (husband is borrowing it) today the photos are going to be a bit cack, sorry!

I’m evil evil evil as can be, don’t mess around with me

Some lovely vegetables to try and distract the boys from fighting and cussing each other

What shall I try first Monty, corn or Mange Tout?

Did you know that they buy the expensive stuff for us, they don’t eat any?

Film050

Hey, that Mange Tout and corn is the same colour as me!

Basil, you have not defeated the Montyraptor, I’ll be back.

We’re all friends now

The budgies are getting along a lot better today, right now they’re all on the budgie shelf rack snoozing and preening.

Monty even took some time to stand next to Jerry for a while and sing (show off)

Hello Green one, it’s King Monty, pleased to meet you

bodgies 25-8-10 012

I wanna be in the photo too. CHEEESEE!

bodgies 25-8-10 007

This is most unseemly, can’t a bird sing and poop in peace?

Snowy Du Jour

Snow is far too popular at the moment for my liking.

No I’m not jealous of my budgie boy, I am just sick of him being flown after and chased by the other 3 budgies it is getting tiresome. We’re having to separate them every five minutes at the moment and cannot leave them alone if they are all out of their cages.

Anyone got a solution that doesn’t involve permanent separation, I’m hoping it’s just a silly phase they’re going through!

Here he is, the boy of the moment..

A paddling pool and some mysterious orange stuff

Thankfully today in Budgie land things have been a lot calmer – maybe due to the troops sleeping separately or maybe just cos they were scared of the high winds today.

Budgies seem to have hopefully grasped the concept of “budgie shall not bite budgie”

Who is this little white fella Roswell? – is he eating our millet?

bodgies 21-8-10 043

I have my eye on you and yes I did try some of the orange concoction how did you know?

I’m hiding tee hee, she doesn’t know I’m here

I’m a cute little puffball and I wouldn’t ever hurt any budgie

bodgies 21-8-10 002

I found a bargain when I went to do a little shopping, it’s meant to be a “double cat feeding dish” but I thought it would make a great paddling pool for the boys.  So far Monty has ventured in which is a start – the ping pong balls seemed to help :)

budgie paddling pool

In my efforts to vary their diet I made a cauliflower, sweet potato and couscous mash for the birds, they had a slight nibble and will get more tomorrow morning!

There is plenty in the fridge so they’d better like it or it’s on the menu for us this week – sssshhhhh don’t tell the husband!

Roswell bit Monty’s foot :(

Well as some of you may know, the budgies have been particularly boisterous in the past week.

Roswell has been chasing Snowy around and this has agitated Jerry and Monty, they’re jealous and a lot of wing flapping from Jerry and attempting to jump on each other has gone on.

We separated them this morning into pairs so that they could calm down a bit (Monty Snowy and Roswell Jerry) gave them quite a while to calm down – 30 minutes.

But when we let Roswell and Jerry out, they flew straight over to Monty and Snowy’s cage and started climbing all over it, then we noticed that Roswell bit Monty’s foot.

My husband got Roswell away and I noticed that there was blood on his arm (my husbands and not Roswell’s, Roswell is a budgie and doesn’t have arms!) – at first we thought it was Monty’s face (I thought it was his eye – shock horror – I almost had a coronary) but it turned out that it was just above his toe-nail and he’d itched his head spreading blood all over the place.

Anyway the bleeding stopped pretty quickly and Monty looked far worse that the injury actually was due to the blood on his face.

The birds have remained in their separate cages ever since and will sleep separately tonight. It’s hard to keep them apart but it’s for their own safety.  Roswell and Snowy keep pacing and Jerry hovers and flaps like a large mad Hummingbird.  That said they are far calmer than earlier – although Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” is on the radio and that always gets them going.

Monty is recovering well and seems quite happy bashing away at the mirror.  I put some millet and vegetables in their cage and that seems to help (Roswell and Jerry have a treat stick that is mainly millet already as they’re in the main cage)

Such a relief that we have two cages!!

The boys will accept your messages, presents and cards now :)

I wont post a photo of Monty with blood on him as it might upset people, instead here are some cute recent ones of the birdies…

Dig your eyeliner dude.

Budgies love new stuff

The budgies said an overwhelming thank you to me for getting them new stuff, it arrived today!

Mostly the thank you consisted of biting on their banana treat stick till it was bald and flying away from their new climbing frame :)

We love the new treat stick and natural wood perches

new stuff

This mirror is brilliant, hang on, wasn’t it here before?
