Four Sticky Yellow-faced Budgies

We thought we were going to have to lock the fiends in for the day as we had workmen arriving, so we gave them some corn which I ingeniously managed to wedge onto lolly-sticks and the husband hung up in the cage on a wooden clothes peg.

I also draped Basil all over the cage too to try and keep them amused.

Snowy took great pleasure in chewing the stalks so that all the leaves fell to the floor of the cage and all of the budgies now have sticky yellow faces and beaks.

Might have to give them a rest from corn tomorrow and wash their little faces with a flannel, mummy style :)

and then it rained!

Wow, the sky just got dark and it’s suddenly started raining really hard, I heard someone scream outside and someone shouted “I’m getting really soaked”, always funny when it's happening to someone else :D

The budgies do not like the dark sky, Roswell and Jerry are perched on the soap dish on the window staring out at it wondering if it means the worlds millet supply is no more (It’s as deep as they can get to “it’s the end of the world”)

Snowy and Monty are playing about inside Budgingham palace pretending all is as normal but secretly wondering why the room and sky have got dark and who stole the shiny bright thing that shines on them and makes then happy.

They haven’t been subjected to thunder and lightning yet, wonder what they’ll make of that?

I have to keep changing things around to keep the fiends happy

When they’re happy, they don’t fight

They still stare at me a lot though

Monty can even sometimes tolerate Jerry

A paddling pool and some mysterious orange stuff

Thankfully today in Budgie land things have been a lot calmer – maybe due to the troops sleeping separately or maybe just cos they were scared of the high winds today.

Budgies seem to have hopefully grasped the concept of “budgie shall not bite budgie”

Who is this little white fella Roswell? – is he eating our millet?

I have my eye on you and yes I did try some of the orange concoction how did you know?

I’m a cute little puffball and I wouldn’t ever hurt any budgie

I found a bargain when I went to do a little shopping, it’s meant to be a “double cat feeding dish” but I thought it would make a great paddling pool for the boys.  So far Monty has ventured in which is a start – the ping pong balls seemed to help :)

In my efforts to vary their diet I made a cauliflower, sweet potato and couscous mash for the birds, they had a slight nibble and will get more tomorrow morning!

There is plenty in the fridge so they’d better like it or it’s on the menu for us this week – sssshhhhh don’t tell the husband!

Just like that!

Roswell can do impressions, it’s uncanny – Tommy Cooper was resurrected today!

“Just like that” said Roswell as he did his best impersonation.

“Look here pink thing, this is only going one way, I am going to take you DOWN!” said Monty before he dropped the tiny pink spinning top of terror off the roof of the Summer palace.

The Roswell pose! Mr Wonderful himself, note the lovely blue feathers on his neck/face.

My Budgie the Dinosaur

Monty sometimes reminds me of a mini T-Rex or Velociraptor - the way he darts about speedily.

Especially when he first started running along the floor with his tail up in a dominant position staring up at us, actually these days he mostly hops along really fast like a crow, looking for something to beat up.

It was once reported that the early Dinosaur was more like a Chicken than any other bird: http://www.science20.com/news_articles/did_dinosaurs_become_chickens

I think the scientists have got it wrong, they were more like budgies, I have living proof squawking and singing right beside me right now.

You certainly wouldn’t want to meet a 13ft high version of Monty – even a Monty the size of a dog would do serious damage!
