Custard moves in with Roswell and Jerry, Dumpling on a Swing, Double Trouble

Custard has now moved into Budgingham Palace with Roswell and Jerry. It seemed such a shame to keep her away from Roswell at night seeing as she seems to dote on him so much so we decided not to!

I made up a little girly corner for her with her Olympic rings and a pink mirror although so far Jerry seems to love it a bit more than she does!

So far so good although night times are awkward as Jerry likes to leap about a lot before he settles down and this unsettles Custard. No danger of moving Jerry out though as he does this wherever he is put the little naughty Green boy. Besides he's Roswell's best mate so it would be a trifle unfair.

Lilek AKA Dumpling has been playing on the Parrot toy swing that arrived with him all those months ago, we have also seen Monty and Roswell take a liking to it.

I caught a frightening photo of Lilek earlier, it looked like there were two of him - two "Dumpling's" nipping at my toes would be too much even for me to tolerate!

How to get your budgie to bathe

When we first got our budgies we bought one of those “clip to the side of the cage” baths for £4-5 from the pet shop, a yellow one I believe. We tried all we could to get them into it, splish splashing about with our fingers, putting millet or lettuce in it but no, they were scared of the damn thing (not been in it to this day)

Eventually we realised that they would only get into a vessel if it was see-through, their suspicious natures no doubt!

So we got them a Pyrex pie dish to bathe in and they love it, especially if the water is diluted with camomile tea.

Something new though is that if I put the three coloured ping pong balls in the water then they jump in straight away and make a huge mess splashing about – especially Roswell and Jerry!

Monty likes it too, Snowy is not much of a bather but will get in the bath if I hold it up for him – I think he likes me to be the life-guard in case one of the other budgies jump in and he gets trapped. Bath time seems safer for him if it’s heavily policed, which is fine.

Monty and Jerry also like to rub themselves against Parsley in a rather perverse manner!

Ropes, Swinging and Pot

I cleaned lots of budgie things a couple of days ago – including both the Summer Palace and Budgingham Palace, many many budgie toys and the two racks and mirror that are on the wall.

In a fit of enthusiasm today I decided to rearrange a few things and today I have placed the Twisty coloured Rope perch that was in the Summer Palace in the doorway of their main cage (Budgingham Palace)

We call the other cage the Summer Palace because it’s located by the window and get’s a lot of sunlight. The budgies like to sit in it a lot and either play or watch the sunset. They fly back and forth from Budgingham Palace all day long screaming their little beaks off with excitement.

The idea behind moving the Rope Perch here is that it might help them get into and out of the cage, Snowy sometimes has a “decision making” problem and his little pink feet pitter patter back and forth, while he’s looking all over the place trying to work out the best way to get out of the cage, this should make it easier for him at least.

Roswell has been having fun with the Swing. Because there are tiles on top of the Summer Palace and we only recently placed the swing in there, it was stilted and would rigidly move when a budgie dared jump on it tentatively.

Now it has been mended and works better, Roswell decided to play on it today, he’s been up to his usual acrobatic tricks.

Swinging, budgie style

We don’t like to have the swing in the main cage as it’s only really big enough for one budgie to play on at a time, fights would break out at bedtime for the swing as a roosting place.

Poor Monty looks a bit threadbare at the moment, like an old Teddybear, he’s moulting AGAIN – it’s never ending.

Pots of fun

A plastic pot of chives has kept the budgies amused for almost the entire day, just look at the nibbling that has gone on here.

and here is Monty hiding behind the pot of chives trying to sneak up on it, or hiding from the camera – perhaps both.
