Tonight's evening entertainment is..

Toys and millet.

I have taken all of the perches out of the Summer Palace - one of the three cages and put lots of the new toys that Jerry won interspersed with millet on the inside walls.

Hope they enjoy it, looks like fun.

Can you spot what the blocks on the roof spell out? :)

Peace at last..

I am happy to report that there have been no Monty and Jerry fights today at all.

I even caught the two suspects sitting in Abbie and Hector's cage sharing a piece of millet together.

Hopefully no more scuffles in the near future.

Seed Storage and a new table for the fiends

We managed to get hold of a great cool box for storage of the 20kg sack of budgie seed that we took delivery of recently. It didn't all fit though so we had to store the remainder in some klip it boxes!

We also got a great new(ish - we got it from a kind soul on Freecycle) table on wheels to put the Summer Palace on, this should make it much easier when vacuuming and sweeping as it can be rolled out of the way.

When Monty saw it he felt he was one step closer to owning that Harley he had always dreamed of.

Recent photos of the fiends, humungous table and masses of seed are below..

Basil, Dill, Baths and millet

The fiends have been spoilt today.

We have given them millet pegged up in the summer palace, a bath (Snowy, Jerry and Roswell got absolutely soaked!) and I pegged up some Basil and Dill for them to munch on and chuck all over the place as they do.

I'll clean the mess up later on when I have the energy.

Here are some photos..

Treats for the Terrors

How about this for a bargain - in our local pet shop we can get seven big sprays of millet for a quid. So this weekend we made a special trip via the Island Hoppa (Which is a free bus service) to the market and also ended up buying some 700g bags of budgie seed and budgie tonic seed, two ping pong balls - one orange and one yellow plus a couple of fruit treat sticks.

These treats will last them a while as I only give them a millet day once a week and the rest of time time it is used as a reward for good behaviour. They are not that well behaved!

These budgies are so spoilt..

Of course we had to reward ourselves with a Chelsea bun each too. Well why not!

Gimme millet demands Roswell

So I did and he ate it all up. He's a lot heavier than little King Monty, I had to hold my arm out for 10 minutes while Roswell picked away at it.

Can I get him to step on my hand when there is no delicious treat involved though - the answer is a firm NO!

Oh well he's still very cute and it's nice to have him trust me enough to sit on my hand and eat millet :)

All the birdies had bath-time and Parsley earlier. I put lots of parsley in some clear glass dishes and most of the budgies had a massive dunk in the water. Dumpling waded through several times and then delighted in soaking us through by flying over us again and again!

After bath-time I rinsed and then clipped the parsley to ladders and a mug tree so that they could chew on it for a while.

I left them out a blue food dish with water and some plastic balls in it in case they fancied anther dip though, it's a rather warm day today and I don't want them getting overheated, poor little birdies.

Sunny Basil day (and some not so good photos from my mobile phone)

My Camera is in use by an other today so I used my mobile phone to get some quick snaps of the birdies - well tried to, they're not the best at keeping still and I don't have a very steady hand (must be all the coffee .. oops)

What a beautiful day it is, birds have had a bath and some basil and maybe if they're good (!) might get millet later - I like to give them a millet day at least once a week.

Look how wonderful Hectors plumage looks even with my rubbish phone taking the pics, he is a handsome budgie. Naughty as well but aren't they all?

Bought some cage clips from Riversway Online (http://www.riverswayonline.co.uk/) and they arrived today - only 39p each, I am very pleased with them and only ordered them yesterday morning. Put in another order for some cuttlefish holders, salad racks (yes I didn't even realise there was such a thing for a bird cage!) and 3 tiny finger draws!

I love receiving stuff in the post (especially for the budgies, even if they're not as excited about it as me) and I am sure it's going to be great quality!

Gotta go, Lilek keeps biting my hands as I type and I need to wash up!

Lots of photos and a millet day!

Got a lot of photos of the birds to show :)

Roswell has been posing for the camera as he's a very photogenic budgie, must be the "show bird" in him!

Dumpling has been going to his favourite corner demanding head scratches from me.

The budgies had a massive millet feast yesterday in the Summer Palace, I like to treat them with a millet day now and again and they really enjoy it. I got a great photo of them all in (and on!) the summer palace, see if you can spot and name all nine!

Little Custard is still following Roswell around and flapping at poor Jerry whenever he gets near to his old buddy. Jerry still manages to occasionally feed and preen Roswell much to Custards annoyance!

My King Monty is doing his best to show all the other birds that he is the boss by flapping around them, staring at them and generally running rings around them and us!

Quite often I will hear him call to me, turn round to look at him and he'll fly off, he does it so often that I get neck ache, little b*gger. He also landed on my head yesterday - you'll be trying to have a serious conversation or concentrate on something and he'll suddenly flap past you and jump on your bonce :)

Lilek gives his opinion on Chives

I, Lilek the budgie also known as "Dumpling" by my owner, declare that Chives are fit for budgie consumption and also quite good to roll in when pegged in a dish and sprayed with water in a satisfactory manner.

I must admit to not liking being called Dumpling or even worse "Dumples" or "Dumpy Wumpy" and if my owner wants to know why I almost bit off her entire finger today then she need look no further.

I also demand more millet and human food - I would like a share of the twisty white things that the humans have for lunch everyday with that red sauce and those tiny brown squares that they eat far too much of, I want to know what they taste like.

I also want to see more colourful socks and be near more feet.

My owner insisted that we upload these photos because she thinks I am cute.

balls!

Balls, the budgies just love 'em.

Snowy sings to his, Monty stands on them to make himself feel higher and safer and today Jerry and Roswell have been throwing them around.

We have some lattice bell balls in the soap dish that is stuck to the window (with suction, not glue) and Roswell and Jerry have been standing up there today chucking them onto the floor. I tried to get a photo of Jerry actually throwing a ball with his beak but my shutter-speed isn't all that fast so I just got one of him with the ball in his beak.

A morning feast for a lucky budgie

Monty was the only one brave enough to sit on my hand and eat a sprig of millet this morning, he's been singing about it ever since. He has puffed himself up and is telling the other three that this is why he's the boss of the house, because he's brave and worthy of human attention. Probably telling them that he has the small human with the glasses thoroughly trained and that she will hold out her arm with millet whenever he feels like some.

Not sure what his signal to me is - it's probably subliminal, Monty would definitely use the power of the budgie mind to out-wit me :)

They have their egg and grated broccoli mix this morning, later on I'll replace it with babycorn, carrot, basil and perhaps some more broccoli.

Me, trained - NEVER! :D

Here are some pics of Monty enjoying his tucker.

One of these is the dominant species..I don't think it's me

Monty seems to have trained me to give him millet on command. I don't know how he does it.

Look into my eyes...not around my eyes...3 2 1 you're under..now bring me millet!

Budgies love new stuff

The budgies said an overwhelming thank you to me for getting them new stuff, it arrived today!

Mostly the thank you consisted of biting on their banana treat stick till it was bald and flying away from their new climbing frame :)

We love the new treat stick and natural wood perches

new stuff

This mirror is brilliant, hang on, wasn’t it here before?

Crazy naughty birds

As my previous post said, they have been really naughty and energetic today, Monty has bitten me twice, once this morning and once this afternoon – both times I was trying to get him away from Jerry as he was in “fight mode”. I can guarantee when he is in this mood that he will jump on my hand and savage it if I put it near him – which has it’s advantages as it makes it quite easy to remove him from the other budgies and place him in solitary (one of the cages we have – don’t worry they are both pretty large) for a few minutes while he calms down.

Anyway here are some pics from the day.

I gave ‘em millet to try and calm them all down and take their tiny minds off of trying to jump on each other. Yeah I am that mother that bribes their kids with sweeties to shut them up cos they are driving me INSANE!
