Treats and sunshine

It's a lovely sunny day and I thought I would treat the fiends with a big plate of their favourite food - sweetcorn!

I hacked the nibblets off the cob and washed them. Then I smashed up some pine nuts and harrisons bird pellets. Sprinkled this mixture on the corn with some avian seaweed. I can get the fiends to eat nutritious stuff this way that they would ordinarily ignore - sneaky huh!

They love it and have no idea how good for them it is. Poor little fiends :)

I gave them some basil too so don't feel too sorry for them. These birds are treated very well indeed, they eat like kings. Of course Monty is the only true king!

Abbie eats with the Big Boys

She's settling in so well, I am so happy with her progress. Not only has she got both Jerry and Hector running after her giving her food but she now comes and has a nibble at the vegetables I put out for them.

Good girl Abbie :)

She makes such cute and funny little noises too, really different from the boys, a bit like Gizmo!

Here are some photos from the day - the fiends have had corn and basil so are more excited than usual.

Getting the fiends to eat their vitamins

I just gave the budgies a big plate of vegetables and egg and they are currently tucking in and flinging it everywhere with glee.

The vegetable mess contains the following:

The Bird Pellets and Pine Nuts are sprinkled into the mix just to make sure that any fussy birdies still get their vits!)

Sweetcorn niblets (rich in vitamin B)
Broccoli grated (rich in vitamins B, C and K)
Carrot grated (A, K)
Egg chopped (A,D,E,K)
Chopped Pine Nuts (B,E,K)
Crushed Harrisons Superfine Bird pellets (All manner of healthy things)

Cornfest!

Just gave the birds some corn, they are madly picking away at it, Monty went completely nuts and his eyes went to tiny pin-points :)

They seem to love the corn more than millet. I don't give them it too often because it's really messy and makes all of their feathers sticky -
not to mention I am going to have to scrub the tiles on top of their cage later on but that's no big problem.

Give us stuff.. or else

Or else what you may ask - well I didn't want to find out so I gave 'em stuff.

Monty wouldn't let me near his food in case I stole some, he said I eat more than the budgies and it wouldn't be fair on them if I shared. He has a point.

Sky did his Taxi Driver impression, it was very good.

The rest just scoffed food and sang all day long - it's what they do best.

Another thing they do very well is bite stuff - Snowy bites the sandpaper I put in their play-station, he has made it his goal to tear off as many small pieces daily that he can - I am worried what he is doing with them, perhaps building a raft or making a loofah so Monty can scratch him in the bath.

Blue-Boy also loves biting stuff, I keep having to shoo him away from the budgie screen as he's chipping away at the wood - maybe he's whittling it to make it pole-like, we'll have to see.

It's all go for the budgies

The sun is out and the budgies are very lively, it's a good job because they have so much to do today.

I hope that they can make time for their rigorous schedule of preening, playing, singing, squawking, flying and of course eating!

Their day started some time ago when they were uncovered and presented with their usual treats of Dill, Carrot, Babycorn and Cress. Of course they have their Trill budgie seed and a smattering of Harrisons superfine bird pellets thrown in.

They have since tucked in, made a mess and left me little presents everywhere, it's very kind of them and I look forward to many more throughout the day.

Piccys from this morning..

Budgie Forest

Today the budgies decided to enter in to the wilderness known as the budgie forest which I created for them on top of the summer palace.

Immediately Jerry jumped on to the top of the pot of chives and claimed himself to be a budgie prince.

Snowy was far too busy stuffing his beak with Dill to even notice.

Meanwhile Roswell tried to hide behind the Dill and Monty struggled to reach it, until he realised he could climb.

All budgies thoroughly enjoyed and continue to enjoy biting on the little wooden branch climbing frame while munching on some green stuff.

Giving the birds a break from the Evil yellow stuff

I think I'll give the birds some dill today, maybe it'll help calm them down, ha!

Either way it'll make the room smell nice and fresh and more importantly give the birds something new to do :)

CORN! - ATTACK!!

Didn't I tell you Snowy was addicted to corn?

He stood on it while the others pecked at the edges to get to the last of the tasty niblets. He was like a budgie on a podium, I half expected him to do a little dance.

Lately he has taken to spinning the plastic budgie (attached to the play centre) round and round.

He also feels the need to detach the bell ball from the end of the hook and fling it as far as he can - like a discus.

Here they are - my favourite trouble makers..

Roswell "Ah, a photo opportunity!"

Lovely bright and sunny day for the cheeky chaps

It's a lovely day today, sun is shining and the birds are tweeting - in their loud boisterous way!

Monty has already ventured into the kitchen several times to sing to the dishes and run about on the draining board. We think he likes the acoustics out there!

We also think he likes the attention he gets from us getting up and chasing him out again. The kitchen door is always closed if there is any cooking going on so he's not in any danger, sooooo cheeky though! :)

It's really cute to see him tweeting, head bobbing and bashing away at a cup or plate that's two or three times his size.

Here are some pics from this morning..

..I used a distraction technique to stop them playing up - it's called giving the little kiddies whatever they want as long as they're semi-quiet for 5 minutes!!

Four Sticky Yellow-faced Budgies

We thought we were going to have to lock the fiends in for the day as we had workmen arriving, so we gave them some corn which I ingeniously managed to wedge onto lolly-sticks and the husband hung up in the cage on a wooden clothes peg.

I also draped Basil all over the cage too to try and keep them amused.

Snowy took great pleasure in chewing the stalks so that all the leaves fell to the floor of the cage and all of the budgies now have sticky yellow faces and beaks.

Might have to give them a rest from corn tomorrow and wash their little faces with a flannel, mummy style :)

Budgingham Palace looks like a tropical rainforest

Budgies LOVE corn on the cob

Yes they had fun today nibbling on their first ever corn on the cob..

lots of battles over it and of course Monty claimed it as his.

YUM YUM

Look at this, all that is left - not a kernel unnibbled..
