The Tower of Terror

Yesterday we installed the Tower of Terror – a cup and mug holder for the birds to perch on. First of all they fled from it as fast as possible, then came the next stage – ignoring it, then Mobbing it and seeing if it did anything back. After this my husband took each bird (on a stick) to the tower so that they could see it up close.

Monty was the first to land on it right at the top of course, then the other birds tentatively followed suit.

Eventually when they had all had their turn, they started dancing around it and looking at their own reflections in the base.  Monty claimed it as his and chased Jerry away whenever he got close. This is the usual thing that happens with something new, Monty has to approve it before any of the others, especially Snowy, will go near it.

Monty told Jerry off but I get the impression the little scamp wasn’t taking it seriously.

Mange Tout is still as popular as ever, when they aren’t flinging it at us in competition they even nibble it a bit.

Don’t talk to me about how crap my computers specifications are, I KNOW, but I can’t afford a new one right now.

  1. I found your post on the Photography tags page and I just had to click on it, because your budgie Monty looks just like our budgie, Petey, who died 6 months ago. We had him 9 years and enjoyed every minute. After looking at your pics I think it's time to get another, possible more than one.

  2. Oh how sweet.

Sorry to hear of your loss, I lost a budgie 6 months ago too.

Sounds like Petey had a long and happy life.

    Got any pics?

  3. Thanks Marianne. Here's a pic of Petey in 2005... http://sheila365.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/homework-003.jpg ... his cere was bright blue at the time. In the last year that he became ill, his cere turned brown, due to abnormal hormone levels that were a result of a tumor in his abdomen, which eventually made him lame. He was a pretty bird, which he reminded everyone of whenever they walked by :)

  4. Petey is a sweetheart and you're right he's the same type exactly as Monty!

My Eric had a brown cere too when he passed away but he was a lot younger than Petey. About 6-8 Months old (If you can believe anything a Pet Shop tell you..)

Thank you for showing me a picture, he looks like he was fully of personality. Maybe he's up there in budgie heaven eating Millet with Eric :)

  5. [...] We bought a stick on (with suckers) clear plastic soap dish and stuck it on the balcony windows, Jerry and Roswell have had great fun staring out of the window and jumping back and forth from the play centre to the dish and then the Tower of Terror. [...]
